What is a Fundraiser?

YOU are the renewable energy behind Earth Gives Day. The ability to care for wildlife, advocate for clean air and water, conserve land, take care of national parks and teach children about the environment is made possible through individual donors and climate cheerleaders like you. As an "earth giver" and super ambassador, you have the ability to set up a fundraiser, also known as a Peer-to-Peer fundraiser.


This is a powerful act. When YOU ask your friends and family by sharing the opportunity to give through social platforms, texts and emails, you help a nonprofit you're supporting expand their community of doers and donors. And don't stop there. They way transformation begins to take hold is by learning more about the issues associated with that nonprofit and the additional actions we all can take to drive solutions forward. 


Find a Cause or use the search bar to find an organization(s) you would like to promote and raise funds for. It's free and you can personalize it in a variety of ways with your personal story of what that group, why that mission, and maybe how you've even been involved. As soon as a nonprofit is approved for Earth GIves 2025, you can set up your fundraiser. Invite others to do the same. Then get ready to start promoting it come September through October 7.


If you really want to help a specific group but you can find them, call them up to recruit them to the platform.


Important Note: Individuals, companies and nonprofit participants can set up fundraisers too. For nonprofits, they might be to raise money for a specific project. For companies that might work with the nonprofit on other efforts, you can set up a fundraiser and have your entire team share that specific URL to rally donors. A new feature for 2025 is called Company Giving. This is a slightly different option than a fundraiser. If you have questions, just ask us at connect@earthgives.org.


Nonprofits must be registered by August 22.

Become a Fundraiser in 5 easy steps

Step 1: Create your Fundraiser

Find your favorite nonprofit using the website's search function. From the nonprofit's page, click the "Create a Fundraiser" button. Set your details! Add your title, your name, custom URL, and set your fundraiser goal. Think of a catchy or easy URL that will be understandable to the audience you're sharing it with. 


If you cannot find your favorite nonprofit, they have not registered to participate in Earth Gives Day. Check back at a later date or contact the nonprofit to invite them to participate.

Step 2: Tell us your Fundraiser story!

Why does this organization matter to you and why should people give?

Step 3: Set a personalized image

Add a personal image for the Fundraiser! Include a photo of you and the organization or the program you are advocating for. If you don't have that, consider of photos of you in nature.

Step 4: Review and Publish

Preview your profile before you push it live. Please note, once published, it should be viewable with a refresh of your browser. You can always go back and update it with new content and photos.

Step 5: Share!

Fundraisers are only successful when they are shared! Share the fundraising page to all social platforms. Copy your Fundraiser's unique URL to share with family, friends, and other contacts via email. Use your social circles to gain additional awareness.


Share when early giving begins September 5 and the week leading up to Earth Gives Day. The more you share and rally donors or dollars, you just might be helping your nonprofit win additional Prize Fund dollars. The Prize Fund is a pool of dollars that are awarded to nonprofits based on size, the number of donors and dollars. The might also be a financial award for the fundraiser that brings in the most dollars.

Fundraiser FAQs:

  • When can I create a fundraiser?

    You can create a Fundraiser as soon as the  nonprofit you want to support is registered and approved for Earth Gives Day! 

  • When can people start giving to my Fundraiser?

    People can give to your Fundraiser as soon as early giving opens! For 2025, that's September 5.

  • Will I be notified when someone makes a donation to my Fundraiser?

    Yes! Whther you are a nonprofit or a Peer -to-Peer fundraiser, you will recieve an email that tells you when a donation is made. That way you can thank someone immediately, unless they've given anonymously.


    All donors receive an automated thank you as well. 

  • Can I create more than one Fundraiser?

    Yes, you can create a fundraiser for as many causes as you'd like. Rally friends, family, co-workers, departments - whatever serves you. 

  • How will the donations I raise through my Fundraiser get to the nonprofit?

    All the donations come into Earth Gives Day and are reconciled by each nonprofit participant. Then those donations are distributed accordingly. For "fundraisers" each donation made through your page tracks to the nonprofit's page and will be documented accordingly. 


    Both fundraisers and nonprofits have the ability to download their donors for follow up thank yous and other uses.
